This "perfect" community is not so perfect, Jonas finds out as the Receiver of Memories. Jonas has grown up in the community with no violence, no poverty, no danger, but also no freedom of choice. Once Jonas discovers there is more to the outside world than he knows, he wishes to help others and to live the life he wants, rather than is made to live. The best way to describe this novel is dark fiction. It is set in the distant future and allows much room for interpretation. I personally did not care for the novel, but read it for yourself and maybe you will discover it's one of your favorites. After all, it is an award winner!
